Welcome to Blueberry Fields

Blueberry Fields is a family owned blueberry orchard. We are located in the Byron hinterland in northern New South Wales, 2 hours south of Brisbane and only 20 minutes from Byron Bay or Ballina. Byron Bay is the most easterly point in Australia and is a popular tourist destination for both national and international visitors.

Our Story

Otto, Lynette and our son Jascha own and manage the orchard, while our daughters Emily and Alexia provide scientific and marketing support. We have been growing blueberries here for 30 years.

At Blueberry Fields we have returned to the old fashioned way of farming — growing our plants in organically rich soil. We focus on enhancing and utilising what nature has provided to sustainably grow the best quality nutritious berries that you love to eat. Along the way water, wildlife habitat and biodiversity all benefit.
We are proud to provide safe and fair employment opportunities for local and seasonal workers and thank them wholeheartedly for their support in undertaking essential work.

In addition to farming, we are in the process of planting 15,000 native Big Scrub rainforest trees in corridors on our property to encourage local wildlife and diversity of flora. Lynette loves to birdwatch and, even as a beginner, has identified more than 100 bird species with many more species yet to be identified.

We Use Biological Farming Methods

Influenced by our lifetime membership of SoilCare, and through our strategic work and biological farming practices, we have increased the organic matter and carbon in our soil by more than 10 fold, making our soil much more biologically active than when we began farming here.

We use an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) system to closely monitor insect levels to detect any imbalances. If pest management is required we introduce natural predators, pheromones and/or bait traps rather than spraying insecticides.

Health Benefits Of Blueberries

We all love to eat blueberries because they taste great. The Australian Blueberries website explains just how super blueberries are.

Some nutritionists believe that if you only make one change to your diet, it should be to add blueberries. They may be small, but blueberries remain one of the most nutritious, antioxidant-rich fruits in the world.
